Lighthouse Point is a small community of less than 10,000 people located in Broward County, FL, about thirty five miles north of Miami and 3 miles south of Deerfield Beach. The area that is now known as Lighthouse Point was once just farmland and mangrove swamps and development did not even begin until the nineteen fifties. The first home was built by a Miss Juliette Baker in 1953 and the first residential community, Hillsboro Isles followed a year later. Lighthouse Point was officially incorporated in 1956; three years after the first homes were built there. There are very few remaining vacant lots in Lighthouse Point available for sale today. More than 95% of the available land has been developed and there are no plans to expand the city any further as has been the case in other nearby Broward County cities. Lighthouse Point homes fall into the medium to upper price range with the average selling price of Lighthouse Point homes for sale being somewhere in the region of $900,000. Lighthouse Point is characterized by informal affluence and life is lived by its residents at a rather leisurely pace. The average Lighthouse Point residential neighborhoods are quiet, tree lined and water-laced. Most Lighthouse Point homes are single family residences, many of which front right on to city's attractive waterways and some of which could only be described as the most spectacular and luxurious anywhere to be found in South Florida. Lighthouse Point has a number of public parks including the Lighthouse Point Tennis Center and Dan Dewitt Park which offers the chance to participate in a number of different sporting activities, The city also boasts a number of “mini-Parks” for residents to enjoy. Because of its location along some splendid bodies of water fishing and other water based activities are very popular with those who own Lighthouse Point homes as well. |
