Oh…the magic question…
As a local, South Florida Real Estate Broker, I am asked this question daily.
When you need money – Lack of funds to upkeep your property mortgage, taxes, maintenance, insurance, etc. are a clear sign it is the best time to sell your property. Delaying the inevitable leads to foreclosure, irreparable maintenance, liens, lawsuits and more. Sell now to cash out, break even or maybe to just stop the bleeding.
Before you merge households – When you are going through a life transition and will be moving in with another person or family member, this is the perfect time to sell. Start with a clean slate with your new spouse by selling your individual properties and buying a new home together. Or when you are moving in to care for an aging parent, or they are moving in with you. Liquidate so there is money to assist with your new life change.
Before the baby! – New babies usually means you need more space. Pregnancy and change are stressful enough, but better to sell and move now before life really gets stressful. Moving with a brand new baby is just exhausting and complicated. Start your “nesting” in a new home, so you can be settled in for your new arrival.
The kids are all grown up – Many folks keep living in their family home even when the kids are gone to keep the memories alive. This can be financially and emotionally draining. Sell your family home, and finally move to the beach or that active adult community you have been thinking about.
Despite all the other reasons… the best times to sell your house in South Florida is Spring (March to June) or Late Fall (Late October to Early December).
