Florida is the Sunshine State for a reason. It’s best known for supplying the rest of us with orange juice, enticing our grandparents to join its ever-growing population of retirees and warm, vacation-worthy weather year-round.
Residents of West Palm Beach, Florida classify it as a “big little city.” While it’s technically part of the Miami metropolitan area, it is only home to just over 100,000 people of the five million throughout greater Miami. When you’re seeking the big city feeling, Miami is just down the road.
Florida relies heavily on the tourism industry – so you can bet on tons of fun for anyone who visits. Whether you’re planning a visit for the middle of summer or the dead of winter, there’s plenty to do to keep yourself occupied and entertained.
Many are unaware that West Palm Beach is home to the largest croquet facility in the world. The National Croquet Center spreads across ten beautiful, green acres along with a 19,000 square foot clubhouse with a lounge, two ballrooms as well as a bar. If you’ve never played before but are interested in getting started, take advantage of free Golf Croquet lessons every Saturday at 10:00 AM by reservation.
If you’re looking for a more traditional sports experience be sure to visit the Hard Rock Stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins and the Miami Hurricanes. Five Super Bowls have taken place here as well as two World Series. Stop by for a tour or grab tickets to a game.
Take advantage of the warm Florida weather when you sign up for paddle boarding, kayaking or snorkeling through Paddle Away Sports. If you’re interested in trying something new, stop by one of their Board Burn or Yoga classes which take place on the water using equipment from their shop.
Palm Beach Opera is a professional opera company that calls West Palm Beach home. Their vision is “to set the benchmark for artistic excellence by producing impactful and innovative operatic experiences.” At their annual event, Opera at the Waterfront, 100+ musicians perform live for free. This family-friendly event only requires you to pack a blanket or chair for seating at Meyer Amphitheater.
Thankfully, the Palm Beach Opera is able to perform at a beautiful local venue, the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. As a community-focused space for art and education, the Kravis Center thrives in the West Palm Beach area. It’s your go-to spot for theater, live music and dance on the Okeechobee Boulevard.

Florida’s rainforest-like climate allows it to grow and support an ecosystem of tropical wildlife that, depending on where you’re from, you may never have seen before.
